As I stated in part one of this series: “We currently have two mostly lovely, snuggly, and adorable kitties and they couldn’t be any different personality wise.” Our older kitty is shy but beautiful. You can read her story here. Our younger kitty is incredibly righteous (or so he thinks) and mischievous. We refer to him as “Devil Cat,” “Poop Face,” and Charlie. He is a handsome Siamese cross and came to us from a cat hoarder’s house eight years ago.
Here is his story:
I was visiting my grandmother and sisters on the Cape for Mother’s Day and my baby sister, then in high school, suggested we go and visit her friend’s friend whose cat just had kittens. Me being the animal lover that I am was immediately interested and excited to snuggle some adorable, fluffy kittens so off we went. Little did we know that this friend of a friend’s parents were hoarders, like the type on that TV show. When they opened the door to welcome us piles of things and a very strong pet odor greeted us as well. We were apprehensive but didn’t want to be rude so we proceeded to make our way through the very narrow path of stuff to where the kittens were. I was shocked to see that there were actually three litters of kittens running around in what I would have guessed was their kitchen. I should add here that I had absolutely no intention of getting another cat. In fact, the thought had never even crossed my mind. Ryan and I were kitty content at home with our one cat but when I saw the living conditions for these people and animals I knew that I had to do something. So I made a bold decision and decided to take one home without consulting with Ryan first. I was immediately drawn to a tiny gray tiger with a white point on his tail. I think he may have been the runt of his litter but it was hard to tell with so many of them running around. He was decidedly called Prince Charles, AKA Charlie. He most certainly deserves his title.
Even as a baby this little guy knew what he wanted and would stop at nothing to get it. For example, he decided he needed to snuggle for the entirety of my three-hour drive home from the Cape, so he made his way up onto my shoulders, curled up, and purring the whole time! This of course was welcome because he was so tiny and cute that I barely even noticed him there but sometimes his needs are not so unnoticeable. One of his most irksome moves nowadays is when he wants his dinner he will scratch at Poppy’s bedroom door knowing quite well that we will respond quickly because we don’t want her to wake up…errrrr. He is, however, so incredibly patient with her. I have seen her drag him across the floor by his fur and he just let her do it. He has never even thought about introducing her to his teeth or claws despite her many attempts at torturing him. (disclosure: I do not let her abuse him. When I see her do it I immediately step in and either redirect her or show her how to be nice and gentle with him.)
Charlie, we are so lucky to have you in our lives. We love you very much. You are sweet, kind, and very snuggly and you are the most patient cat I have ever seen with a baby. I guess my bold decision worked out for the better!
Love,
Kristin
