So I bet you are wondering what the heck the Flats and Handwashing Challenge even is…
Here are the deets?
For a seven day period you are only to use flat diapers and covers. They must be hand washed and air dried. This is to show that cloth diapering is accessible to anyone even those who are on a very limited income and do not have the luxury of a washer and dryer. If you don’t know, flat diapers are basically of a single layer of fabric that you can fold in various ways to make it work for your needs. You can learn more here.
Why on earth would anyone in their right mind willingly participate in such an event?
I am not doing it this year to prove that I can. I did that last year. Call me crazy but I actually enjoyed it and I am excited to be doing it again. I love cloth diapering. I love that they are better for the environment, healthier for my little one’s bum, in many cases, way cheaper than their paper/plastic counterparts, and the cloth diapering community is AWESOME Sauce! Even though our family has the ability to buy fitteds, all-in ones, and woolly covers not everyone does. My hope in doing this challenge and blogging about it is to create some awareness that even on a budget you can cloth diaper. Plus, I love flats. Last year I bought flats with the intention of selling them as soon as the challenge was over and decided against it. They are so versatile, super trim, easy to travel with, and so easy to clean. You don’t even need a washer and dryer!
Now on to the bathroom to wash up some dipes. Until next time!
xoxo, Kristin
